Enrolment of participants will be subject to meeting the following requirements:

  1. Must be 18 years of age or over; and
  2. Successful completion of Year 10 or its equivalent; and
  3. Pre-Enrolment Questionnaire; and
  4. Have completed the following units (or equivalent competencies):
  • BSBLEG314 Protect information in a legal services environment;
  • BSBLEG423 Conduct simple legal research; and
  • BSBLEG424 Support the drafting of complex legal documents.
  1. Have two years equivalent full-time relevant work experience.
  2. Laptop or desktop computer with at least Windows 10/8 GB RAM/1TB hard disk storage with internet access via cable of WIFI and video camera installed.
  3. Access to computer loaded with Microsoft Office/Word/Powerpoint and Excel

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

This qualification is designed for learners working in a legal practice, usually as a paralegal or law clerk assisting with legal research, drafting of documents, organising case files and setting up zoom meetings. The student may already be a legal practice seeking formal credentialing at this level or be aspiring towards achieving the status of Practice Manager. Each trainer/assessor will have a maximum of 30 students in their cohort.

Students obtaining a competency for all units in this course will be awarded the full qualification BSB40620 Certificate IV in Legal Services. Students not obtaining a competent result for all units in this course will receive a Statement of Attainment for those units assessed as being competent.

Post-graduate employment pathways for students completing this qualification include possible job titles such: as legal secretary

Post-graduate education pathways include BSB60420 Advanced Diploma of Leadership and Management.

All staff at Australian Academy of Legal Education including contracted trainers/assessors act as student support officers and can refer students to appropriate external support providers as appropriate. Australian Academy of Legal Education has a range of support options available for its students to ensure they progress through the program in a confident way, feeling supported at every step of their learning with us. The support services extended to our diploma level students are IT support and printing support with emotional support and wellbeing consultation as necessary.

We ensure that students are capable of conducting on-line/distance learning over the internet prior to course commencement.

This course is conducted as blended learning as distance learning with on-line delivery. The student is immersed into a simulated legal practice to facilitate the interaction without privacy and confidentiality concerns.

Students can have their competency from prior learning and work experience recognised in this course through the following arrangements:

  • Recognition in the form of RPL and Credit Transfer are offered to students prior to enrolment.
  • Students who have successfully completed previous training and who have achieved relevant unit will be eligible for credit transfer.

Student presenting with prior experience are required to complete the assessment tool that is used by the college to assess each of the relevant knowledge points and skills. Students are not required to attend any training unless there is an agreed gap in the skills evident in the questionnaire outcome or of the practical skills demonstration.
